Support Options
Choosing the Right Support for Your Costume
The right support solution depends on your costume's construction, neckline, and how much coverage is required. There's no single answer — most experienced full-busted cosplayers carry multiple solutions and pick the right tool for each costume.
Structural Undergarments
For costumes with enough coverage to hide a bra, a well-fitted full-cup bra is always the most reliable support option. For convention wear specifically, look for longline styles that distribute weight across the torso rather than just the shoulder straps. Wide straps reduce pressure. A full-coverage underwire gives the best lift and separation for heavier busts.
Strapless Solutions
Strapless bras for full busts need a silicone-grip band to stay in place. Standard strapless bras slip on larger busts. Look for dedicated full-bust strapless styles from specialist brands — generic fashion strapless bras don't provide adequate support above a D cup.
Adhesive Solutions
Silicone adhesive bra cups provide lift and coverage without straps and work under low-back, plunge, or backless costumes. Size up from your usual for adequate coverage, and test the adhesive on your skin at home before convention day. Most silicone cups can be hand-washed and reused multiple times.
Breast Lift Tape
Kinesiology-style breast lift tape provides support and lift without cups. Apply in an upward direction, anchoring below the bust and pulling upward toward the collarbone. For heavier busts, multiple strips and practice are needed. Never apply over broken or sensitive skin.
Built-In Structural Support
The most reliable long-term solution is building support into the costume itself — boning, sewn-in cups, and shelf bra construction mean you never have to worry about a bra showing or slipping. See our fitting guide for construction techniques.
The Convention Emergency Kit
Even with the best support plan, things shift during a long day. Always carry: fashion tape, safety pins in multiple sizes, a spare set of silicone cups, and a travel sewing kit. A small pouch with these basics has saved many conventions.
