The Power of Character Posing
The best cosplay photos show the character, not just the costume. Before your shoot, spend time researching canonical poses and expressions for your character. Character-specific poses always read as more intentional and engaged than generic model stances.
Body Positioning Basics
Turn your body at a 45-degree angle to the camera for a dynamic silhouette. One foot slightly in front of the other gives a grounded, balanced stance. Avoid standing completely face-on unless the character or costume specifically calls for it.
Arms and Hands
Hands and arms are often afterthought in posing, but they frame the whole image. Hold props at dynamic angles, use one hand to gesture at the costume's elements, or cross arms for a powerful, composed stance. Never let arms hang limply at the sides.
Expressions
Match your expression to the character. A warrior should look fierce, not pleasant. A sorceress should look commanding. A goddess should look serene. Practice in a mirror at home before the convention โ it makes an enormous difference.
