Commissioning a Costume for a Large Bust

Measurements to Always Provide

Most commissioners ask for a standard set of measurements but won't necessarily prompt you for the full-bust-specific measurements that matter most. Always provide all of the following:

• High bust — measured above the bust, across the chest
• Full bust — at the fullest point
• Underbust — directly below the bust
• Bra size — your current professionally fitted size
• Cup depth — the difference between high bust and full bust
• Waist, hips, shoulder width, height, and weight as standard

What to Ask Your Commissioner

Before committing, ask specifically about their experience with full-bust fitting. Have they made costumes for larger cup sizes before? Do they know how to do a full bust adjustment? Are they comfortable with built-in support construction? An experienced full-bust maker will answer these confidently.

Built-In Support vs. Undergarment

Clarify with your commissioner whether the costume will require a bra underneath or whether support is built into the garment. For convention wear, built-in support is almost always preferable — specify this clearly in your commission brief.

Reference Images

Provide reference images of both the character you want and your own body type wearing similar garments. This helps the commissioner understand how the costume's design elements will translate to your specific figure.
