Skin Preparation
Primer is non-negotiable for convention makeup longevity. Apply a silicone-based primer over moisturiser, allow to set, then apply foundation. A setting spray over finished makeup and regular touch-up spray through the day significantly extends wear.
Character Accuracy
Research the character's canonical makeup before your convention. Collect reference images at different angles. Practice the look at home at least twice before the convention to work out the technique required.
Setting for Longevity
Powder setting over cream or liquid products, followed by a setting spray, creates the most durable finish. For eye makeup specifically, an eyeshadow primer prevents creasing over a long convention day.
Touch-Up Strategy
Pack a small touch-up kit: lip colour, blotting papers, setting spray, and a small concealer. Plan for a midday touch-up in the bathroom — 5 minutes makes a significant difference to how makeup photographs in the afternoon.
